Single vs. Double Hung

A single-hung window is constructed of one sash in a single frame; the top is stationary while the bottom is a sash that opens by sliding upward. A double-hung window is different in that the upper and lower sash slide vertically past each other allowing top, lower or dual ventilation.

Hung windows do not require operable cranks or complex hardware, which translates into years of effortless operation and reliability. The System 700 hung window design allows sashes to tilt in for easy cleaning. Standard frame and window colour is white. A variety of different colour options are available. This year we had a new fiber glass front door with sidelights and transom provided by Southfield and VDK. They were very helpful in picking options, very friendly. There was no pressure or hard sell. There were lots of back and forth emails to pick a door style, and when we sat with them in their showroom they really helped us pick the style and make it look good. When we made a last minute change to extend the frame up splitting the transom into 3 windows there was no problem. Very responsive, friendly, helpful, and good quality work at a very fair price.
